A tough round three saw the Emory University men's golf team slip down the team standings as the NCAA Championships continued Thursday afternoon from the Keene Trace Golf Club in Nicholasville, Kentucky.
The Eagles finished 19-over par in the third round of the NCAA Championships and will head into the final round in 13th place with a three-round score of 888 (+24). Methodist University moved into sole possession of first place on the leaderboard and stand even through three rounds at 864. Piedmont University is in silver position at 868 (+4) with RPI in third at a six-over 870.
Sophomore Nicholas Nautiyal paced the Eagles from the No. 5 position on Thursday as he carded three-over 75 thanks to a strong front nine where he finished one-under. Classmate Tony Li recorded a third round score of 76 while junior Jackson Klutznick had a 77 over his 18 holes. Sophomore Michael Burry and freshman Brian Hanson rounded out the Emory performers on day three as both golfers finished their rounds with a seven-over 79.
Through three days, Hanson leads the Emory contingent in the individual leaderboard standings in tie for 30th with Li behind in a tie for 38th. Burry is tied for 60th with Nautiyal tied for 67th. Klutznick sits two strokes back in 72nd.
The NCAA Championships will conclude on Friday with tee times beginning in the early morning.
