Emory Men's Basketball Places Three On All-UAA Team -- Gigax Earns First-Team Nod

Three members of the NCAA Tournament-bound Emory University men's basketball squad have been selected to the All-University Athletic Association Team.  The all-league picks were chosen by the conference coaches.  The Eagles had one player each on the first and second teams while landing one honorable-mention selection.

Junior Adam Gigax (Mason, OH) captured a first-team berth for the second straight season after leading the conference in overall scoring with an 18.8 points-per-game average. Gigax has scored in double figures on 20 occasions this year and has totaled a team-high 12 outings of 20 or more points, six of which came during league play. The Eagles' top point producer in 13 contests, he rang up a pair of career-high tying 36-point performances, the first one coming against Berry College (Dec. 29) and the other at the University of Chicago (Feb. 12).  His 469 total points this year ranks seventh on the Eagles' seasonal list. Named the UAA Player of the Week three times (Nov. 21, Jan. 23 & Jan. 30) during the 2016-17 campaign, he has 76 three-point field goals to his credit, good for third place on the school's seasonal ladder, and his average of 3.0 treys per game place him third on the conference chart.  He has converted 40.2 percent (76 of 189) of his triple tries with that effort ninth among UAA players. In addition, he has been successful on 84.1 percent (69 of 82) of his free throw attempts, which ranks as the second-best mark in the league.

Senior Jim Gordon (Broomall, PA) was chosen to the second team, thanks to an extremely productive campaign that has seen him score at a 15.6 per-game clip, good for the No. 2 spot on the team and seventh among UAA players.  The owner of a team-high 23 double-figure scoring contests, he has totaled 20 or more points on five occasions, four of which came during league action. He has converted 56 three-point goals (tying for 15th on the school's seasonal list) and his average of 2.2 triples per outing is eighth on the league ladder. Gordon, who has 18 games with two or more treys, has three pointers in his last 18 games, tying the program's 11th-longest streak.  Named the UAA Player of the Week (Feb. 20) after averaging 27.5 points and 7.0 rebounds in victories over Case Western and Carnegie Mellon, he averaged 16.8 points in conference play, tying for fifth place among the league leaders.

Junior Whit Rapp (Noblesville, IN) rounded out the group with his honorable-mention selection.  Rapp concluded the regular season with a league-best average of 8.5 assists per game, good for the No. 3 spot among all Division III players. He has doled out 10 or more assists in 10 games this year and established a school record when he finished with 16, the high-water mark by a league player so far this campaign, against New York University (Jan. 29). His 213 assists are a school season record, topping the previous mark of 186 held by Austin Claunch (2010-11).  He is fourth on the team in scoring (7.4 ppg) and has double figure point production in seven contests.

Emory, 18-7 overall, has earned its fifth straight trip to the NCAA D-III Tournament where it will venture to the campus of Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, Texas, for this weekend's (Mar. 3-4) first and second rounds.  The Eagles will tangle with Texas Lutheran (19-9) on Friday at 5:30 pm (CST) while host Hardin-Simmons matches up with LaGrange College. The winner of those two games will meet on Saturday at 7:00 pm.
