Gebereal Baitey Named UAA Men's Basketball Player Of The Week

Emory University junior Gebereal Baitey (Morristown, NJ) has been selected as the University Athletic Association Men's Basketball Player of the Week after helping the Eagles to wins in the opening two rounds of the NCAA D-III Tournament.  It is the first time in his career that he has been selected for the honor.

The 6-foot-2 Baitey averaged 13.5 points, 3.5 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals as the Eagles topped Berry College and LeTourneau University, sending the Eagles to their fourth Round of 16 berth over the past five campaigns. In addition, he shot 52.0 percent (13 of 25) from the floor.

In the 91-72 decision over Berry, Baitey totaled 12 points, four boards, four assists and a game-high three steals. He followed that effort by finishing second on the club in scoring with 15 points, hitting seven-of-11 field goal tries, including one trey, while contributing three assists, in the 83-82 triumph vs.LeTourneau. It represented his 17th double-figure scoring outing of the year.

One of two players to have started all 27 of the team's games, Baitey is averaging 11.0 points and 3.7 rebounds per outing.

Emory, 23-4 on the season, continues play in the NCAA Tourney this Friday (Mar. 9) when it squares off against UW-Oshkosh. Serving as the host site of this weekend's action will be Augustana College.
