Emory Men's Basketball To Play In Roanoke College's Dick Leftwich Tip-Off Tournament

The Emory men's basketball team packs its bags for a trip to Roanoke College this weekend where it will play in the Dick Leftwich Tip-Off Tournament.  After host Roanoke battles Keuka College in the tourney opener on Friday (Nov. 16),   Emory will match up against the College of Staten Island with tip scheduled for 8:00 p.m.  On Saturday, the consolation game will be played at 1:00 p.m. followed the championship contest at 3:00 p.m.  All games will be played at the Cregger Center on the Roanoke campus.

Head Coach Jason Zimmerman and his squad stand 1-0 following a 98-80 season-opening win at Piedmont College this past Sunday. The No. 18-ranked Eagles were led in scoring by sophomore Matt Davet who topped all players with a career-high 25 points, connecting seven-of-13 field goal attempts, including three treys in seven tries, and eight-of-12 from the charity stripe.  Davet was one of five double-digit Emory scorers with senior Gebereal Baitey and sophomore Lawrence Rowley each contributing 16 points while sophomores Nick Stuck and Matt Schner tallied 11 and 10 points, respectively. Rowley helped the Eagles to a hefty 54-40 edge in rebounding by grabbing a career-high 10 boards in registering his first career double-double.

The College of Staten Island will be aiming to get into the win column after dropping its first two games of the campaign.  The Dolphins lost their season opener to Montclair State on Nov. 8, 84-70, before coming out on the short end of a 68-64 verdict to Misericordia on Wednesday.  Led by second-year Head Coach T.J. Gibbs, CSI closed out 2017-18 with a 17-12 won-lost ledger.

Under the direction of ninth-year Head Coach Thad Phillips, Kueka College will meet Roanoke with a 1-0 mark after bettering Pitt-Bradford, 67-47, last weekend.  The Wolves finished 11-13 last season which included a 9-7 record in the North Eastern Athletic Conference.

Roanoke College stands at 1-1 after participating in last week's Messiah College Tournament, losing to Ursinus, 72-64, before bouncing back to claim a 90-47 triumph over Clarks Summit.  Head Coach Clay Nunley is in his ninth year at the helm of the Maroons' program and is coming off a 20-win season in 2017-18.  Roanoke was tabbed as the team to beat in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference in that league's pre-season poll.
