Emory Rolls By Keuka To Win Leftwich Tip-Off Tournament Title

Sophomore Romin Williams scored a career-high 32 points and classmate Lawrence Rowley added a personal-best 21 points in helping the Emory men's basketball team to a Saturday afternoon victory over Keuka College in the championship game of the Dick Leftwich Tip-Off Tournament.  The Eagles raised their record to 3-0 following a 109-73 decision over the Wolves who suffered their first setback in three decisions.

Williams closed out the contest sinking 11-of-23 field goal attempts, including eight-of-18 from three-point, while converting a pair of free throws en route to tying the school's 20th-highest single-game scoring mark.  In addition, his eight triples tied the Eagles' top single-game individual standard, joining Alex Gulotta (vs. Guilford, Nov. 20, 2010) and Richard Somers (vs. LaGrange, Nov. 16, 2001) in that exclusive club.

Rowley, who scored 13 second-half points, was successful on eight field goals in 11 opportunities and went four-of-four from the stripe in producing his third straight double-figure scoring performance.  He also snagged a career-best 12 boards in registering his second double-double of the season.  Sophomore Matt Davet rounded out Emory's double-digit scorers with 14 points.  Sophomore Nick Stuck dished out a career-high nine assists in 21 minutes of action while sophomore Matt Schner chipped in eight points and nine rebounds.

Emory unleashed a barrage of three-point field goals on the Wolves, sinking a school-record tying 18 treys in 43 attempts.  The Eagles had eight different players register triples with four draining two more.  Emory finished the game 40-of-76 from the floor, with its field goal total tying the 11th-highest single-game total in school annals.   All 11 players who saw action found their way into the scoring column.

Williams totaled a torrid 28 points in the opening half, knocking down 10-of-16 from the field, including seven treys in 12 tries, in leading the Eagles to a 63-40 cushion at the break.  Emory sank 56.4 percent (22-of-39) from the field during the first half, including 50 percent (12-of-24) from distance.  Holding a 29-16 lead, the Eagles rattled off 10 straight points, highlighted by a pair of treys by Williams, to extend their lead to 39-16 with 9:39 left in the stanza.  A layup by Williams with 1:46 remaining gave Emory its largest lead of the half at 60-35.

Williams was named the Tournament's Most Outstanding Player while Davet landed a spot on the all-tournament team.

The Eagles return to action on Saturday, Nov. 24, when they host Maryville College in the opening round of the Emory Thanksgiving Tournament.
