No. 2-Ranked Emory Men's Basketball Bests UW-Oshkosh

Junior Romin Williams led five Emory double-figure scorers with 24 points and the No. 2-ranked Eagles' basketball team remain undefeated following a Sunday afternoon win over UW-Oshkosh.  Emory saw its overall record improve to 10-0 following an 87-80 decision over the Titans who slipped to 5-5 on the year.

Williams, who dialed up 17 second-half points, closed out the contest eight-of-16 from the floor, including three triples in eight attempts, and five-of-six from the foul line en route to his third straight and sixth outing of 20 or more points this year.  Juniors Nick Stuck and Matt Davet each chipped in 15 points while classmates Matthew Schner and Lawrence Rowley totaled 13 and 11 points, respectively.  Rowley helped the Eagles to a decisive 53-37 advantage on the glass by pulling down a career-high 16 boards, tying the school's 15th-highest individual total.

A bucket by Williams gave Emory a 47-40 edge with 16:12 left in the contest  but the Titans, the defending D-III national champions, used a 13-5 burst, capped by a three-pointer by Adam Fravert, to claim a 53-52 lead with 13:00 on the clock.  From that point there were a total of 10 lead changes over the next eight minutes and thirty seconds which resulted in UW-Oshkosh still ahead by a single digit, 70-69.  The Eagles then grabbed control down the stretch, rattling of eight unanswered points, started by a pair of Davet charity tosses and fueled further by a Schner triple, to bolt to a 77-70 cushion with 2:26 remaining.  After a bucket by Fravert, who ended up with a game-leading 30 points, drew Oshkosh to within five, Emory sealed the outcome with a 6-0 run, which saw Schner nail a jumper and Stuck and Williams each hit a pair of free throws, to post an 83-72 bulge with 22 ticks on the clock.

Emory finished the contest connecting on 46.8 percent (29-of-62) of its field goal tries, including 45.8 percent (11-of-24) from beyond the arc. UW-Oshkosh turned in a 37.8 percent (31-of-82) effort from the floor and converted just 30.8 percent (12-of-39) from distance.   The Eagles have enjoyed the edge in field goal shooting vs. the opposition on seven occasions this season.

With Rowley scoring nine points and Davet eight, Emory took a 39-32 lead into halftime.  The Eagles trailed by a 22-21 count before exploding for a 15-3 barrage over a three-minute and thirty-second stretch, sparked by Williams picking up four points and Schner, freshman Greg Lawrence and Davet all sinking triples, in moving to a 36-25 edge with 3:39 left in the stanza.  Emory was successful on 47.1 percent (16-of-34) from the floor during the opening 20 minutes of action while UW-Oshkosh checked in at 30 percent (12-of-40).

Emory continues play in its Holiday Classic on Monday (Dec. 30) when it squares off against Guilford College in a 4:00 pm start.
