Emory Men's Basketball To Host Opening Rounds of NCAA D-III Championship - Tangles With Methodist In 1st Round

NCAA D-III MEN'S BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP BRACKET

Emory University will serve as a host site the first and second rounds of the NCAA D-III Men's Basketball Championship. The Eagles, 21-4 on the year, will battle Methodist University (18-10) of the USA South Athletic Conference on Friday (Mar. 6) in a scheduled 7:30 pm (EST) tip.  The Emory-Methodist contest will following the other first-round match of Centre College (24-4) against Pomona-Pitzer (21-5), which will start at 5:00 pm. The winners advance to Saturday's second round with that affair scheduled for a 7:30 pm tip.  All games will be played at the Woodruff PE Center.

The Eagles of head coach Jason Zimmerman were one of 43 programs to receive an automatic bid to the postseason. Emory co-tied for the University Athletic Association championship with Washington University, but got the nod for the automatic by virtue of two wins over the Bears. Emory will be making a conference-record eighth straight trip to the postseason and ninth in school history.

The Monarchs of Methodist, led by 21st-year Head Coach David Smith, earned an automatic bid to this weekend's action after winning the USA South Athletic Conference Tournament, topping Huntingdon, 79-73, in the finals. It marks the third time that Smith has guided MU to the NCAA postseason.

Friday's game against the Monarchs will be the fourth -ever meeting on the hardwood between the two schools with Emory winning the first three match-ups.
