Men's Basketball Upended by Wabash, 98-90, in Great Lakes Invitational Finale

The No. 13 ranked Emory University men's basketball team poured in a season-high 90 points but it was not enough as the team fell by eight to Wabash College on the second and final day of the Great Lakes Invitational in Marietta, OH.

Senior Matthew Schner recorded his first double-double of the season with 25 points and 13 rebounds as he logged all 40 minutes while freshman Logan Shanahan posted 18 points in 23 minutes off the bench. Senior Nick Stuck notched his third straight double figure scoring outing as he had 15 to go along with five rebounds and four assists. For his efforts through the two games, Schner was later named to the GLI All-Tournament Team.

Jack Davidson was one of four Little Giants to reach double figures, scoring a game-high 29 points on 9-of-13 shooting including 4-for-8 from long range. Davidson added a team-best six rebounds, two steals and had five assists. Fellow starters Tyler Watson and Ahmoni Jones tallied 19 and 18 points respectively with Jesse Hall recording 14 in 16 reserve minutes.

Wabash outshot the Eagles 55.9% to 43.7% from the floor on the evening and drained 12 three pointers to hand Emory its second consecutive defeat. The Eagles struggled from behind the arc, knocking down three in 19 attempts. Emory however had the rebounding edge at 38-31 including 13 on the offensive glass and forced 12 WC turnovers.

The Eagles never led in the contest as Wabash scored the first four points of the night and eventually moved in front by as many as 16 at 52-36 with 2:10 left to play in the first half. Emory used a 15-4 run over the next 6:22 minutes of game action to pull within five at 56-51 with 15:49 to go in the second half. The Little Giants answered with an 8-0 run of their own sparked by triples by Watson and Hall to increase their lead to 13. Emory would cut the deficit down to as little as six with a Stuck and-one at the 9:01 mark but that would be as close as they would get for the remainder of the game.

Emory, now standing at 1-2 overall, returns home to begin a three-game home stand beginning with a matchup against Guilford College on Saturday, November 27th, at 3:00 PM.
