Men's Basketball Reaches Triple Digits to Down NYU for Fifth Consecutive Win

The No. 24 ranked Emory University men's basketball team reached triple digits for the first time this season, defeating New York University 104-82 Sunday afternoon at the Woodruff PE Center in Atlanta, GA.

Senior Matthew Schner had a team-high 22 points and classmate Nick Stuck recorded his first career double-double with 20 points and 10 assists, both season-highs, as the Eagles won their fifth consecutive game. Freshman Logan Shanahan and sophomore Matteo Whelton each knocked down four three pointers off the bench with Shanahan tying his season-high with 18 points and Whelton setting a new career-high with 12.

The Eagles were on fire once again shooting wise, going 39-for-63 from the field and were 16-for-31 from three-point land. The 61.9% field goal percentage was the best shooting performance by an Emory team this season and second time in the last four games the Eagles have been over 60% from the floor. It is also the sixth-best single game performance in team history.

For the Violets, Bobby Hawkinson tied a career-high with 32 points as he was one of three visitors in double figures. Hawkinson added a game-high 11 rebounds as he registered his 13th double-double this season.

Emory came out of the gates with an incredible shooting display, knocking down 20 of its 30 attempts to score 57 points in the first half, the most points in any half this season, to build a 21-point lead through the first 20 minutes. The lead grew to as many as 29 as the Eagles scored the first seven points out of the break but never dipped below 19 for the rest of the contest.

The Eagles travel north next weekend for rematches against Brandeis and NYU as Emory begins the final stretch of the UAA schedule.
