Men's Basketball Wins Seventh Straight; Downs NYU 91-74 in Brooklyn

The No. 20 ranked Emory University men's basketball team extended its winning streak to seven games Sunday afternoon, defeating New York University 91-74 at Saint Francis College in Brooklyn, NY.

The Eagles maintained their UAA lead, boosting their conference record to 8-1 and now 15-4 on the season. The Violets sank to 0-8 in the league and 9-9 overall following Sunday's defeat.

Senior Matthew Schner continued his torrid season with a game-high 26 points with 21 coming in the first half. He knocked down a team-best five threes while grabbing seven boards, dishing out four assists and collecting four steals. With his point total he climbed into 10th place on the Emory all-time scoring list with 1,188 points. Classmate Nick Stuck had a great all-around performance as well, coming close to a triple-double with 17 points, nine assists and seven rebounds. His nine assists moved him into sole possession of 5th place all-time and is now just three shy of 400 in his career.

Senior Romin Williams made his way back into double figures as he finished with 16 points, 12 of which came from long range. Junior Max Fried added 13 points on 5-of-6 shooting and classmate Greg Lawrence contributed five points and a team-high nine rebounds.

For the Violets, Bobby Hawkinson put forth another double-double with 19 points and 13 rebounds while Riley Demps had a team-high 20 points.

The Eagles continued to shoot well from three-point range, going 14-for-35 from beyond the arc and were 48.5% from the field. Emory won the battle on the glass 43-32 and forced 11 NYU turnovers.

The first six minutes of the game were back-and-forth with nine lead changes and saw the Violets holding the early advantage at 15-14 with 14:11 remaining. However, a three-pointer by Schner put Emory back on top at 17-15 and did not look back, never trailing for the remainder of the contest. The Eagles closed the first half on a 28-18 run including a triple by freshman Albert Fallas right before the halftime buzzer sounded.

The lead never dipped below seven in the second half with Emory growing its lead to as many as 19 points on its way to the convincing road victory.

The Eagles continue its four-game road swing next weekend beginning with a rematch against No. 9 ranked WashU Friday night in St. Louis, MO.
