Men's Basketball Selected as Host Site for Opening Rounds of NCAA Tournament

NCAA D-III Men's Basketball Championship Bracket

Emory University will be the host site for the first and second rounds of the NCAA Division-III Men's Basketball Championships on March 4-5.

The Eagles, 19-5 on the year, will open the tournament on Friday evening at against the Averett Cougars (17-11), winners of the USA South conference. The Eagles and Cougars squaring will be second game of the evening as the day starts with Wabash College (24-3) facing off against the Berry Vikings (23-2).

The winners will advance to Saturday's second round matchup, scheduled for 7:10 PM in Atlanta. All games are slated to be played in the Woodruff PE Center.

With Emory's berth into the NCAA Tournament this year, it now holds the longest running active streak of tournament appearances having qualified nine consecutive times. The Eagles, coached by Jason Zimmerman, were one of 44 teams to earn an automatic bid into this year's tournament. Emory went an outstanding 12-2 in conference play this year to outright win the University Athletic Association championship and earn the automatic bid to the tournament. This marks Emory's tenth appearance in the NCAA D-III Tournament in program history.

The Cougars of Averett made a run through the USA-South conference tournament, defeating Covenant 76-63 in the final to earn the automatic bid into this weekend's action. This marks head coach David Doino's first ever appearance in the NCAA D-III Tournament at the helm of the Cougars.

Friday's contest will be just the third ever meeting between the Eagles and the Cougars with Emory having emerged victorious in the previous two contests most recently in 2010 with the Eagles earning a resounding 75-57 triumph.
