Pete Zaharis joined the Emory men's basketball program as an assistant coach prior to the start of the 2011-12 season.

Zaharis has a wealth of basketball experience,  having spent 11 seasons at Georgia Tech, the first four as director of basketball operations and the last seven as assistant coach.  Prior to his stint at Georgia Tech, Zaharis was on the Villanova staff for four years (1996-97 through 1999-2000), the last three as an assistant coach. 

Pete's initial college coaching position came at his alma mater, New York University, where he was an assistant coach during the 1995-96. 

Zaharis earned his bachelor's degree from NYU in 1987 and then obtained his MBA from the school in 1989.  Prior to entering the coaching ranks, Zaharis worked for five years at Citibank in New York as a financial analyst.

A native of Jamaica, N.Y., his family includes his wife, Ritsa, and daughter Anastasia.
