Emory Men's Soccer Holds on for 3-2 Win at Sewanee

The Emory University Men's Soccer team raced out to a three-goal lead and eventually held on for the 3-2 non-conference win over Sewanee University Wednesday night in Sewanee, TN.

Senior Jason McCartney staked the Eagles to the early advantage, finding the back of the net with a long-distance strike in the ninth minute. The goal marked McCartney's team-leading third marker of the season.

Sophomore Keegan McCombie followed McCartney's footsteps later in the first half with a goal of his own from long range, blistering a shot past the Tigers' goalkeeper from 20 yards out. The goal was the first of McCombie's career. McCombie tacked on to the Eagles lead with his second tally of the contest, poking one past the keeper following a great touch pass from classmate Jun Tsuru in the 63rd minute.

Sewanee cut the Emory lead to two just three minutes later as Johnny McNeill put the Tigers on the scoreboard. Sophomore goalkeeper Trevor Stormes misplayed the ball after a corner kick, allowing it to bounce directly to McNeill in front, who finished it into the empty net.

Kyle Johnston scored to pull the Tigers to within one with 63 seconds remaining. Johnson put one past Stormes with a diving header off the perfect cross by Rhodes Hall. Sewanee was able to have one final attack in the closing seconds with a throw in played into the box but Emory was able to clear it as time expired to seal the one goal victory.

The Eagles return to action this Saturday with a meeting against fellow SAA foe Birmingham-Southern College. Play from the Woodruff PE Center is set to get underway at 2:00 PM.
