Oglethorpe Tops Emory Men's Soccer, 3-1, in Mid-Week Matchup

The Emory University Men's Soccer team dropped its second consecutive contest Wednesday night, losing a non-conference match to crosstown rival Oglethorpe University, 3-1, on the road.

The Stormy Petrels improved to 12-2-1 overall with the win while the Eagles slipped to 10-4. Emory outshot Oglethorpe in the game, 18-16, but OU managed seven on target compared to EU's three.

Oglethorpe began the scoring in the 28th minute as Nash Wagnon connected from close range following a Topher Marshall free kick. The Eagles were able to tie the score at 1-1 right before the half, registering an own goal with 1:04 remaining on the clock.

The score stayed deadlocked at one until OU's Josh Hoeft put the Stormy Petrels in front with a beautiful give-and go marker in the 75th minute. Oglethorpe added on to its lead in the 86th minute as Gabriel Alvarez drilled a shot into the left corner on the free kick.

Seniors Jason McCartney and Adam Ferguson led the Eagles with three shot attempts each. Freshman Cole Gallagher fell to 6-3 between the posts, making four stops in the game.

Emory hosts Berry College this Sunday, October 22nd, in the final non-conference matchup of the season. Game time is scheduled for 2:00 PM at the Woodruff PE Center.
