Emory Men's Soccer Stymies Berry, 4-0

The Emory University Men's Soccer program halted their brief two-game losing skid, downing Berry College 4-0 in the final non-conference match of the year Sunday afternoon at the Woodruff PE Center in Atlanta.

Three different Eagles accounted for the scoring on the afternoon while the Emory defense held the Vikings to just two shots on goal to record the team's eighth shutout of the season.

Junior Aidan Datené got the Eagles on the scoreboard with his second goal of the season in the 20th minute. Datené made a move around two defenders after receiving a pass from senior Michael Carragher at the top of the 18 and placed his shot to the left corner.

Senior Jason McCartney registered his fourth multi-goal game of the season and fifth of his career with back-to-back tallies less than five minutes apart. McCartney first made it 2-0 as he converted a penalty kick opportunity in the 68th minute. In the 73rd minute, senior Evan Floersch hit a streaking Adam Ferguson down the sidelines. Ferguson took a few steps before firing a cross inside the six where McCartney one-timed it to the far post. The goal was McCartney's 11th of the year, the most by an Eagle in a single-season since Andrew Natalino (14) and Dylan Price (12) during the 2012 season.

Sophomore Keegan McCombie gave Emory a four-goal cushion in the 87th minute, scoring just seconds after checking into the contest. McCombie collected a loose ball from right outside the 18 and sent a ball to the far corner that went just over a leaping try from Berry's Bryce Lackey. The goal was McCombie's fifth marker of the year.

The Eagles will be back in action next weekend with a pair of crucial UAA contests. First on Friday evening Emory faces Carnegie Mellon University at 5:00 PM before taking on Case Western Reserve on Sunday, starting at 11:00 AM.
