Men's Soccer Senior Trio Named to CoSIDA Academic All-District Team

Emory University seniors Georges Daoud, Jason McCartney and Cody Gardiner have been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Men's Soccer team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday afternoon.

The CoSIDA Academic All-District team recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution.

McCartney makes his second consecutive appearance on the CoSIDA Academic All-District team with an outstanding senior season. McCartney leads the Eagles with career-highs in goals (11) and points (25) and has registered four multi-goal games. His 50 shots and 23 shots on goal also lead the team. McCartney, a Biology major with a minor in Russian, has a 3.92 cumulative GPA.

Daoud and Gardiner have started 17 of Emory's 18 games, playing key roles on the Emory backline. Led by the senior duo, the Eagles defensive unit has posted eight shutouts and a 0.97 goals-against average in 2017, while limiting opposing teams to 10.2 shots per game and 3.7 shots on goal per match. Daoud, a Biology major, has compiled a 3.79 cumulative GPA. Gardiner, who also makes his second straight appearance on the Academic All-District team, is a History and International Studies double major with a 3.68 GPA.

All three Eagles will now be placed on the national ballot for the CoSIDA Academic All-America Teams. The Academic All-America teams for Division III men's soccer will be announced on Tuesday, December 5th.
