McCartney, Khattab Named to United Soccer Coaches All-South Atlantic Region Teams

Fresh off an appearance in the NCAA Elite Eight, senior Jason McCartney and junior Moustafa Khattab of the Emory University Men's Soccer team were named to the United Soccer Coaches Association All-South Atlantic Region teams late Tuesday evening.

McCartney, a South Atlantic Second Team All-Region selection in 2016, garnered First Team acclaim in 2017 while Khattab earned his first All-Region selection with Second Team honors after becoming the first pair of Emory teammates since 2012 to finish the season with at least 20 points.

McCartney made 21 of 22 starts as a senior, leading the Eagles in goals (13), points (29), shots (58) and shots on goal (25). In the first round of the NCAA Tournament against Dickinson College, McCartney registered his fifth multi-goal game of the season as the Eagles advanced with a 3-1 decision. Earlier this postseason, McCartney was named to his second straight All-University Athletic Association First Team and was a CoSIDA Academic All-District selection.

Khattab was one of two Eagles to start every game this season, finishing with a career-best eight goals and four assists for 20 points. Five of his eight markers acted as game-winners including his game-winning strike in the 72nd minute against No.-14 Lynchburg College in the NCAA Round of 32. Previously this season, Khattab claimed his second All-UAA honor as he was named to the All-Association First Team.

Emory reached the NCAA Quarterfinals for just the second time in program history in 2017, concluding its impressive campaign with a 15-5-2 overall record.
