No. 8 Men's Soccer Blanks Hardin-Simmons, 2-0, in Opener

The No. 8 ranked Emory Men's Soccer team began the 2018 season on a high note Friday night, blanking Hardin-Simmons University, 2-0, in the Sonny Carter Invitational played at the Woodruff PE Center in Atlanta.

Senior Moustafa Khattab opened the scoring for the Eagles in 40th minute, knocking in a rebound after a nifty back heel attempt by freshman Ethan Cohen was turned away from the HSU keeper. Junior Jun Tsuru doubled the Eagle advantage in the 55th minute, following up his own rebound and pushing it past the keeper. The play was set up by some great foot work by Khattab as the senior forward tip toed around a defender on the end line before juking another HSU player inside the six before dishing a pass to Tsuru in the middle of the box.

Senior Tyler Santee registered a game-high four shots with Tsuru posting three shots on target to lead both squads. Sophomore goalkeeper Cole Gallagher made three saves to record his seventh career clean sheet.

Emory will take on No. 14 Washington and Lee at 7:00 PM tomorrow night with the winner set to be crowned Sonny Carter Invitational champions. W&L posted a 3-2 win over Oglethorpe University in the earlier game on Friday.
