No. 12/7 Emory Men's Soccer Drops Home UAA Contest to No. 2/1 Chicago, 2-0

The No. 12/7 ranked Emory University Men's Soccer team fell to No. 2/1 University of Chicago, 2-0, Saturday afternoon at the Woodruff PE Center.

The loss drops the Eagles to 8-2 overall and 0-2 in University Athletic Association play while the Maroons improved to 11-0-1 and 2-0 in conference action.

Chicago got on the scoreboard early in the first half, taking advantage of an Emory defensive miscue for an own goal. UC's Matthew Koh sent a cross into the box where sophomore Cole Gallagher made an attempt to punch the ball away but the ball took an unlucky spin of his fist and went across the goal line to give the Maroons a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute.

The Maroons doubled their lead in the 28th minute as Vicente Mateus got around a couple Emory defenders and found Max Lopez inside the six where Lopez finished for his UAA-leading 11th goal of the year.

Chicago won the shots battle 16-9 and held a 9-5 led in shots on target. Gallagher made a season-high six saves in the defeat while UC's Aaron Katsimpalis recorded five stops for the shutout.

Emory looks to stop its two-game losing skid when the Eagles host Maryville College Tuesday evening at the Woodruff PE Center, beginning at 5:00 PM EST.
