Emory Men's Soccer Falls to Crosstown Foe Oglethorpe, 2-1

The Emory University Men's Soccer team fell to crosstown rival Oglethorpe University, 2-1, Tuesday night in a non-conference matchup played at the Woodruff PE Center in Atlanta.

After a scoreless first half, the Stormy Petrels were the first to crack the scoring column, scoring an unassisted goal in the 50th minute. Angel Guevara had a nifty touch pass to himself over an Eagle defender after taking advantage of a failed Emory clear inside the six before finishing his shot to the far post over the shoulder of sophomore Cole Gallagher.

The Eagles responded quickly as senior Tyler Walsh tied the game just eight minutes later in the 58th. Sophomore Max Mehlman sent a long pass to Walsh where he outran several Stormy Petrels defenders and scored through the OU keeper's legs for his second goal of the year.

Oglethorpe netted the game winner in the 73rd as Jon Guy sent a through ball to Abraham Lopez outside the 18 where Lopez beat one Emory defender and tucked a shot inside the near post to give the visitors the lead for good.

Emory closes out the non-conference portion of their schedule Sunday afternoon with a meeting against in-state foe Berry College. Kickoff from Rome, GA is set for 2:00 PM.
