The Emory University men's soccer team played to a draw against the Birmingham-Southern College Panthers Sunday night under the lights at the Woodruff PE Center in Atlanta.

After both teams were able to crack the scoring column within the first 21 minutes of action, keepers Max Carlson and Kurt Moore posted zeroes over the final 89 minutes of play as the teams tied 1-1. With the draw, both programs moved to 1-2-1 on the season.

Birmingham-Southern was quick to strike first on the evening as Coleman Jennings put the visitors in front 1-0 at the 6:58 mark of the opening half. Will Gannaway set up his teammate with a through ball to the top of the 18, allowing Jennings to slot his shot past Carlson.

The lead was short-lived as the Eagles found the equalizer at the 20:25 point with sophomore Ethan Cohen netting his first goal of the season. A deep throw in to the edge of the six by classmate Jasper Pearson set up Cohen to volley in the ball from the difficult angle.

Emory looked to have its best shot at taking the lead at the 66:59 mark in the second half as freshman Trevor Anderson collided with the BSC keeper inside the 18 as both players were going after a loose ball with the foul awarding the Eagles a penalty kick opportunity. Junior Nate Sampson stepped up to take the shot for the Eagles but BSC's Moore guessed right, denying Sampson of the PK goal.

The Panthers had equally good looks 20 seconds apart in the 85^th minute but Carlson came up with two big time stops to keep the game knotted at one. Carlson made a nice diving save on straight on shot by Alejandro Junior before stopping Jennings' 1-on-1 chance shortly after.

Sampson had the Eagles best chance in the final minutes of regulation as a pass slung out wide to him as he was streaking down the right side. He one-timed the pass but Moore was there for the save.

In the first overtime period, Sampson had another attempt for the Eagles in the 97^th minute as he put a slicing shot on target but once again was denied by Moore. In the 109^th minute, Cohen had the last best scoring chance for either side as he had a header following a corner kick right in front of the net but pushed it too strongly over the crossbar.

The Eagles controlled the majority of possession following halftime, leading 17-5 in shots and 10-3 in shots on goal. For the game, Emory held edges in both shots (25-11) and corner kicks (13-4).

Carlson made a career-high seven saves in his first collegiate start while Moore made a season-high 11 saves for the Panthers.

Emory now begins a four-game road swing first beginning with a matchup at Washington & Lee University Friday afternoon. Kickoff from Lexington, VA is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
