Alejandro Gomez's First Career Goal Leads Men's Soccer Past WashU, 1-0

Freshman Alejandro Gomez's first career goal came at a timely moment for the Emory University men's soccer team Saturday afternoon, as his go-ahead strike in the 85th minute led the Eagles to their first University Athletic Association win of the season, defeating Washington University, 1-0, at the Woodruff PE Center in Atlanta.

The win gave the Eagles their sixth victory of the past seven games as they improved to 7-4-1 overall and 1-1 in the UAA. The win also marked the team's first conference victory since November 4th, 2017. The loss drops the Bears to 6-3-1 on the season and 1-1 in conference play.

Following a long clear, freshman Matthew Tanzer dribbled up the left side before sending a cross to the center of the box where Gomez was there to one-time it home. The goal was Gomez's first of his career now gives him six points in his rookie campaign (1G, 4 A).

The Eagles defense stood tall once again Saturday, limiting the Bears to nine shots total and just one shot on goal as junior Cole Gallagher and the Emory defense recorded their second straight shutout and fourth overall.

Emory will look to keep the strong play rolling next weekend with a pair of key UAA contests on the road against Case Western Reserve and Carnegie Mellon University.
