Men's Soccer Hands Rhodes First Loss of Season, 1-0

The Emory University men's soccer team closed out the month of September on a strong note Sunday afternoon, defeating Rhodes College 1-0 at the Woodruff PE Center in Atlanta, GA.

The Eagles snap their six-game winless drought with their second shutout of the year, moving to 2-3-4 while the loss was the first handed to Rhodes this season, breaking a seven-game unbeaten streak as the Lynx fall to 4-1-3.

Senior Joe Beare provided the offense with his first goal of the season, scoring the game-winner in the 61st minute. A great touch pass from junior Cobi Promislow found Beare in the middle of the 18 where he slammed it home.

The Eagles were the more aggressive side across the 90 minutes of action, outshooting Rhodes by a 20-7 margin and held the Lynx to just one shot on frame. Junior Alex Mills and freshman Josh Grand combined for six of the team's 10 shots on goal with Mills finishing with a game-high six shots.

Next up for the Eagles will be the UAA opener as Emory hosts the Bears of WashU next Saturday, October 1st at 11:00 AM.
