Men's Swimming & Diving Notch Three More Event Wins on Saturday; Finishes Fourth at Miami Invite

The Emory University Men's Swimming and Diving team registered three more event titles and 10 NCAA B Cuts to close out the Miami Invitational Saturday night in Oxford, OH.

The three event titles and 10 NCAA qualifying times brings Emory's three day total to six event wins and 28 NCAA B Cuts. The Eagles finished fourth overall at the three day meet, scoring 753 total points. Denison University won the meet with 1,467 points followed by Washington University in St. Louis (838) and Miami (762).

Junior Thomas Gordon and senior Oliver Smith captured individual wins for the Eagles on the final day of action. Gordon dominated the field to swim away with the 1,650 Freestyle, finishing in a time of 15:22.93, almost 14 seconds faster than second place. Smith posted both top times in the 100 Freestyle and won the finals with a blazing 43.90.

Smith and company ended the meet with an exclamation point as the 400 Freestyle Relay team of Smith, senior Aaron Schwartz, junior Trey Kolleck and sophomore Sage Ono set the meet record with a time of 2:57.52 to win the event.

Ono and Kolleck added NCAA B Cuts individually as Ono posted a 1:49.60 in the 200 Backstroke prelims and Kolleck turned in a 44.55 in the 100 Freestyle prelims.

The Eagles saw five other swimmers notch NCAA B Cuts on the day by senior John Copses (3rd, 2:03.21) in the 200 Breaststroke, junior Matt Rogers (3rd, 1:48.29) and freshman Sven Mesihovic (1:50.44, prelims) in the 200 Backstroke, and senior Henry Copses (4th, 15:51.89) and sophomore Andrew duPont (12th, 16:13.69) in the 1,650 Freestyle.

Emory will be on a brief hiatus for final exams and the holidays before returning to the pool on January 12th for a dual meet at Florida Southern.
