Men's Swimming & Diving Earn Six UAA Conference Titles on Friday

With six more conference championships on Friday, the Emory University Men's Swimming and Diving program has extended to a comfortable lead of 335.5 points heading into the final day of competition.

With just one day of events left on the UAA docket, the Eagles sit in first place of the eight-team field with 1,318 points with Washington University in second at 982.5 points. Emory goes for its 21st consecutive conference title on Saturday as the meet concludes with the women's 1-meter diving, 1,650 Freestyle, 200 Backstroke, 100 Freestyle, 200 Breaststroke, 200 Butterfly and 400 Freestyle Relay.

The six titles on Friday bring Emory's count to nine at the meet. The team also accounted for a combined 11 All-UAA finishes on Friday to bring its three-day total to 17.

Freshman Lucas Bumgarner led the evening off with the team's first event title, doing so in impressive fashion in the 3-meter diving event. Bumgarner smashed the school record in the 3-meter, 11-dives event with his score of 576.15, besting the previous top program mark of 512.25 set by Trevor Burke at last year's UAA Championships. Burke finished eighth in Friday's 3-meter event with a finals score of 407.25.

The Eagles claimed event titles in the next four swimming events contested including individual wins in the 400 IM by freshman Zach Lorson (3:55.26), freshman Hwa Min Sim in the 100 Butterfly (48.98) and sophomore Kellen Stillman in the 200 Freestyle (1:39.94).

Emory added conference championships in both relay events with junior Sage Ono, freshman Tyler Russell, Colin LaFave and senior Trey Kolleck touching first in the 200 Medley Relay with a time of 1:28.96 and the group of Stillman, senior Thomas Gordon, Alex Kohlman and freshman Pat Pema winning the 800 Freestyle Relay thanks to a tremendous closing leg by Gordon, finishing with a time of 6:42.24.

Adding All-Conference finishes on Friday were freshman Will O'Daffer in the 400 IM (3rd, 3:57.55), Kohlman (2nd, 1:40.06) and Pema (3rd, 1:40.28) in the 200 Freestyle, Russell in the 100 Breaststroke (2nd, 55.69) and LaFave in the 100 Backstroke (2nd, 49.53).
