Lucas Bumgarner Wins 3-Meter Event at NCAA Diving Regionals

Sophomore diver Lucas Bumgarner is officially on his way to join his Emory swimming teammates at the NCAA Championships after qualifying at the NCAA Diving Regionals Friday afternoon in San Antonio, Texas.

Bumgarner won the 3-meter event on the first day of competition in convincing fashion, posting a final score of 591.55. The next highest finisher was Claremont-Mudd-Scripps' Kendall Hollimon at 514.05 while Pomona-Pitzer's Jem Stern was third at 440.45.

The Pittsburgh, PA native averaged 53.78 per his 11 dives with his highest round score coming on his Forward 1 ½ Somersault 1 Twist Free dive where he scored 63.00, the highest score in a round for any diver on the afternoon. It is Bumgarner's first regional crown in the 3-meter event after finishing as the runner-up in the event at last year's regional championships.

The NCAA Diving Region 2 Championships conclude Saturday afternoon with the 1-meter event beginning at 12:00 PM CST / 1:00 PM EST.
