Eagles Top Nation with 34 CSCAA First Team Scholar All-America Honors

The Emory University swimming and diving teams saw a total of 47 members recognized by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) for their athletic and academic efforts during the 2019-20 season, including a national-leading 34 who were named as Scholar All-Americans.

The Eagles paced all Division I, II, III, NAIA, NJCAA schools with 34 First Team selections, three more than second place Denison University. The men's team led all teams in the country with 18 Scholar All-Americans, one more than the University of Texas, while the women's team checked in with 16 honorees, tied for the second-most in the country. In addition, Emory swimmers combined for 13 Scholar All-America Honorable Mentions.

The CSCAA Scholar All-America award recognizes students who achieved a grade point average of 3.50 or higher and were invited to compete at their respective national championship. Selections were drawn from 209 colleges and universities. Honorable Mention selections were awarded to competitors who met the same academic standards, while also achieving a 'B' time standard or competed at a NCAA Regional.

Earning Scholar All-America recognition for the men were: Lucas Bumgarner, Sean Byman, Jeffrey de Groot, Nicholas Goudie, Jason Hamilton, Jack Kelleher, Colin LaFave, Zach Lorson, Sven Mesihovic, Chris Nicholson, Will O'Daffer, Sage Ono, Pat Pema, Lawrence Redmond, Tyler Russell, Hwa Min Sim, Ryan Soh and Kellen Stillman.

Sixteen women were chosen as Scholar All-Americans: Edie Bates, Sarah Byers, Lucy Daro, Allie Dixon, Gaige Elms, Lara Gemar, Anna Glowniak, Clio Hancock, Taylor Leone, Caroline Maki, Caroline Olson, Savannah Sowards, Maria Turcanu, Nina Turcanu, Josie Uerling and Zoe Walker.

Earning honorable mention acclaim were Maria Kyle, Allie Macmillan, Lauren Salgado, Katerina Savvides and Bethany Seagraves of the women's team and Alex Feldman, Calvin Furbee, Willem Goedecke, Brian Hollis, Steven Kuhn, Will Schuler, Alex Webster and Jack Wessell from the men's squad.

In addition, both the Emory Men's and Women's programs led by Head Coach Jon Howell were named as CSCAA Scholar All-America Teams in late June after recording GPAs higher than 3.0 for the past academic school year.
