Andrew Wilson Finishes Tied for Sixth in 100m Breaststroke at Tokyo Olympics

Former Emory University swimmer Andrew Wilson capped off the first of his two individual events at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, finishing tied for sixth in the World in the 100m Breaststroke.

Wilson went under 59 seconds for just the fifth time in his professional career as he tied China’s Yan Zibei for sixth in the Olympic finals at 58.99. His finals time was the best of his three swims in Tokyo, eclipsing his preliminary (59.03) and semifinal (59.18) marks.

Great Britain’s Adam Peaty repeated as the Gold medal winner in the event at 57.37 with the Netherland’s Arno Kamminga taking Silver at 58.00 and Italy’s Nicolo Martinenghi earning Bronze at 58.33. Fellow American Michael Andrew was just off the podium in fourth place with his finals time of 58.84.

Wilson will be back in the pool on Tuesday as he will take part in the preliminaries of the 200m Breaststroke. Wilson will be in heat four of five which is scheduled to start at 6:46 AM EDT on the 27th. The preliminary heats will air live on the USA Network and on NBCOlympics.com.
