Emory Men Break Three Pool Records, Set Two School Records Through Two Days at Denison Invite

Following two days of competition in Granville, OH, the Emory University men's swimming team currently stands in second place at the Denison Invitational with 1,397.5 points.

Host Denison leads the pack through two days with 1,498.5 points with WashU in third place at 931 points and Franklin & Marshall in fourth at 515.

Across Thursday and Friday, Eagle swimmers have established three pool records, two school records, nine event wins and posted 37 NCAA B Cut times.

Sophomore Nicholas Goudie and junior Ryan Soh broke school records Friday night with both swimmers eclipsing top marks they previously owned. Goudie topped his previous record in the 200 Freestyle with a time of 1:36.70 in prelims before winning the event with a time of 1:37.07 in the finals. His prelim time was a Denison pool record, Goudie's second pool record in as many days as he smashed the 50 Freestyle record the night before with his winning time of 19.84. For Soh, he broke his own program record in the 100 Fly with preliminary time of 47.21 before following it up with first place effort in the finals at 47.82.

The Eagles captured wins in six of the seven events contested Friday night with Soh and Goudie contributing to the tally. Adding individual first place showings were freshman Crow Thorsen in the 400 IM (3:53.72) and senior Jason Hamilton in the 100 Breaststroke (54.47). Emory swept both relay events on the evening as well with Soh, Goudie, senior Hwa Min Sim and sophomore Jake Meyer setting a new pool record with their winning time of 1:26.73 in the 200 Medley Relay and Goudie, juniors Pat Pema, Willem Goedecke and sophomore Logan D'Amore besting the field by over six seconds in the 800 Freestyle Relay at 6:34.28.

In addition to Goudie's 50 Free win on Thursday, Pema was a solo event winner on day one as he claimed the top spot in the 500 Freestyle at 4:23.33 while the Eagles' group of Soh, Meyer, Sim and Goudie rounding out the first day touching first at 3:14.16 in the 400 Medley Relay.

Thursday's action also featured individual top-three finishes by Thorsen in the 200 IM (T-2nd, 1:50.11) and Hamilton in the 500 Free (4:30.10). During Friday's finals session, Pema and Meyer turned in second place showings in the 200 Freestyle (1:37.46) and 100 Breaststroke (54.48), respectively, and senior Lawrence Redmond placing third in the 100 Backstroke with a time of 49.21.

The Denison Invitational concludes Saturday with six swimming events: 1650 Freestyle, 200 Backstroke, 100 Freestyle, 200 Breaststroke, 200 Fly, 400 Freestyle Relay.
