Emory Divers Open NCAA Regionals; Bumgarner Wins Men's 3-Meter Event

Emory University junior diver Lucas Bumgarner headlined the four Eagles in action on Friday as the NCAA Diving Regionals got underway at Trinity University in San Antonio, TX.

Bumgarner continued his reign in the region as he captured the win on the 3-meter board in the afternoon, his second consecutive regional title in the event. Bumgarner topped a field of 12 men's divers with his winning score of 548.75, more than 80 points better the second place finisher. Bumgarner averaged 49.89 across the 11 rounds with his best score coming in round seven as he was awarded 69.00 points on his reverse 2 ½ somersault pike attempt.

For the women, freshman Ariana Khan was a top finisher as she came in third place out of the field of 19 women's divers with a score of 397.30. Khan averaged 36.12 per round and turned in a 45.50 on her 10th dive, forward 2 ½ somersault pike, for her best round score of the evening.

Sophomores Alex York and Tess Klugherz represented the Blue and Gold as well on day one as both divers finished sixth on their respective boards. York recorded an 11-round score of 412.90 with Klugherz scoring 373.45.

The NCAA Regionals conclude Saturday at 1:00 PM EST as both the men's 1-meter and women's 3-meter will occur simultaneously with alternating boards. Following the conclusion of day two's dives, the NCAA will allocate six NCAA qualifying spots for the women and four for the men for next month's NCAA DIII Championships in Indianapolis, IN.
