ITA National Indoor Championships Website

The No. 1-ranked Emory University men's tennis team heads to St. Peter, Minnesota, this weekend (Feb. 23-25) to compete in the 2018 D-III ITA National Indoor Championships.  Serving as the host of the Championships will be Gustavus Adolphus, with matches taking place at the Swanson Tennis Center.

The Eagles of head coach John Browning aim to defend their 2017 National Indoor Championship (defeated Chicago in last season's title match) this year as the No. 1 entering the tournament. Emory has won the crown the past two years and is shooting for a record third-straight ITA Indoor title.

Emory has enjoyed success at the National Indoor Championships with seven titles (2017, 2016, 2012, 2011, 2009, 2005, 2004) in the 17-year history of the tournament.

This year's field is stacked with talent as all eight teams are ranked among the top 16-D-III squads, including five that find themselves in the top 10.   2017 NCAA D-III national runner-up and No. 2 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps will be making its way to Minnesota as will other top-10 programs Washington University (#6), Chicago (#9) and Carnegie Mellon (#10).

Emory will battle No. 8 seed Gustavus Adolphus in its opening match on Friday evening at 7:00 pm (CST).  The winner will advance to the semifinals on Saturday to meet either No. 4 seed Chicago or No. 5 seed Carnegie Mellon at noon.  The final is slated for Sunday morning at 8:00 am.

Other Friday match-ups include No. 3 seed Washington University vs. No. 6 seed University of Redlands (#11 nationally), and No. 2 seed Claremont-Mudd-Scripps squaring off with No. 7 seed Trinity (#13 nationally).

Emory stands 2-1 entering the ITA National Indoors and is coming off a pair of Saturday wins, defeating NCAA D-II member Bluefield State College, 5-3, and Xavier of Louisiana, 9-0.

Many of the top players in NCAA Division III will take part in this year's tournament, including four of the top 10 ranked singles competitors. Top-ranked players in singles include Mohanad Alhouni (No. 1) of Gustavus, Jonathan Jemison (No. 4) of Emory, Chase Lipscomb (No. 5) of Redlands, and Jeremy Yuan (No. 6) of Chicago.
