Emory Men's Tennis To Have Four Representatives At NCAA D-III Singles And Doubles Championships

The Emory men's tennis program will have four competitors in this year's NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships, with junior Jonathan Jemison and freshman Hayden Cassone taking part in singles action while senior Scott Rubinstein and sophomore James Spaulding hitting the courts in doubles.  The NCAA D-III Singles and Doubles Championship will be held May 24-26, at The Biszantz Family Tennis Center in Claremont, California, and will be hosted by the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.

Jemison will be making his third appearance in the Singles Championships.  Last season he advanced to the Round of 16 in the 32-player field after capturing his opening-round match.  In doubles, the Rubinstein/Spaulding duo have won their opening-round contests in each of the past two seasons.  There are 16 doubles teams that will be competing in that portion of the Championships.

The No. 4-ranked player in Division and slotted No. 2 in the Atlantic South Region, Jemison has compiled an overall singles mark of 17-10 this year.  During the fall portion of the schedule, he won the ITA South Region Singles Championship for the first time.  Career-wise, Jemison, a two-time All-American, ranks among the program's all-time top 20 with 71 singles wins.

Cassone, the No. 4-ranked player in the region, tops the team in wins with a singles slate of 23-5. He is 8-2 in his last 10 outings including a three-set win at the No. 1 spot over Erik Kerrigan from the University of Chicago in the finals of the University Athletic Association Championships.

The tandem of Rubinstein and Spaulding have anchored the No. 1 doubles spot the past campaigns, registering 56 wins in that stretch. Ranked fourth in the Atlantic South Region, they have manufactured an 18-10 record this season.

The No. 2-ranked Eagles, 16-4 on the year, begin the team portion of the NCAA D-III Championships action on Saturday (May 12) when they host either Washington and Lee or Thomas More in second-round action starting at 10:00 am.
