Emory Men's Tennis Gears Up For UAA Championships

2019 UAA CHAMPIONSHIPS WEBSITE

The No. 3-ranked Emory University men's tennis team will pack its bags and head to Florida to compete in the University Athletic Association Championships.  The competition runs Friday through Sunday (Apr. 26-28), and will be held at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs.

The Eagles of Head Coach John Browning, 14-2 on the year, enter the Championships as the No. 2 seed and will battle No. 7-seed New York University (6-6) at 8:30 a.m. on Friday.  The winner of that contest advances to the semifinals on Saturday to meet the victor of the No. 3-seed Washington University (16-6) vs. No. 6-seed Carnegie Mellon (8-7) affair.  Other first-round match-ups will see No. 1-seed Chicago (15-1) take on No. 8-seed Rochester (12-5)
and No. 4-seed Brandeis (14-3) square off against No. 5-seed Case Western Reserve (19-8).  The championship match will be held on Sunday beginning at 8:30 am.

Emory has captured three of the last four and 26 of the 31 UAA titles. Last year the Eagles finished runner-up to Chicago, coming out on the short end of a 7-2 verdict to the Maroons in the final.

As usual, the UAA Championships certainly shape up as a competitive event.  Including Emory, four squads are ranked among the top 10 ranked D-III programs nationally including Chicago (#2), Wash U (#6) and Brandeis (#9).  Conference schools rounding out the top-40 ranked teams are Case Western (#12), Carnegie Mellon (#15) and Rochester (#34).
