Emory Men's Tennis Continues Play At ITA South Region Championships

The Emory University men's tennis team continued play at the ITA South Region Championships on Saturday.  The Championships are being held at the Rome Tennis Center and hosted by Berry College.

Heading into the final day of competition on Sunday, the Eagles will have two representatives in the Flight A singles semifinals and one doubles team in the finals.

In singles, sophomore Antonio Mora earned a pair of wins on the day, bettering Liam Baker from Sewanee, 6-1, 6-0, and North Carolina Wesleyan's Jhonny Acosta 6-2, 6-1, in the quarterfinals.  Mora's semifinal round foe will be Andres Carro from Sewanee with that match slated to begin at 8:30 am.  In the bottom half of the Flight A Draw, sophomore Andrew Esses battled to a pair of victories to move into the semis.  Esses scrapped to a successful result over freshman teammate Mark Sverdlov, 7-6, 4-6, (8) in the Round of 16 before notching an 6-2, 6-2 verdict over Roberto Puig from North Carolina Wesleyan.  Esses, who advanced to last year's singles title match, will square off against Sewanee's Jordan Brewer in the semifinals.

Emory's double team of Mora and junior Will Wanner moved into the championship round after registering two wins.  The tandem defeated teammates Hassan Kenawi and Mark Sverdlov, 8-1, in the quarterfinals before emerging with an 8-4 decision against NC Wesleyan's Acosta and Juan Vallejo.  In the finals, the Eagles' tandem will match-up against another NC Wesleyan duo, Aditay Iyer and Roberto Puig.

The Flight B Singles will be an all-Emory affair with freshman Michael Moll and Samuel Dean matching up against each other, while the B Flight Doubles Final will see the Emory team of Michael Moll and William Coupe take on Sewanee's Aubrey Davis and Hamza Khan.
