Mora & Wanner Earn UAA Tennis Honors

Sophomore Antonio Mora and junior Will Wanner have been  selected as the University Athletic Association Men's Tennis Co-Athletes of the Week following their performances at the ITA South Region Championships.  It is the first time in Mora's career  that he has been recognized for the award while Wanner is tabbed for the second time.  The ITA South Region Championships were conducted at the Rome Tennis Center and hosted by Berry College.

Mora brought home a couple of titles over the weekend, winning six matches en route to winning the singles crown in the 64-player field. He posted six victories in becoming the 13th Eagle over the past 14 years to reign at the singles champ. Mora bettered Andres Carro of Sewanee, 6-3, 6-1 in the semifinals before defeating sophomore teammate Andrew Esses, 6-4, 6-1 in the finals.

Mora then teamed up with Wanner to win the doubles championship. The pair played their way to five wins in recording the No. 1 spot, battling to a 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (8) finals verdict over North Carolina Wesleyan's Roberto Puig, fighting off a 2-6 deficit in the tie breaker.  In singles action, Wanner won his first two matches and advanced to the Round of 16.

Both Mora and Wanner earn All-America honors following their performances at the ITA South Region Championships and have earned spots in the ITA Cup that will be played Oct. 17-20 at the Rome Tennis Center.
