Hassan Kenawi Earns UAA Men's Tennis Honor

Emory University senior Hassan Kenawi has been named the University Athletic Association Men's Tennis Player of the Week following his performance at the ITA National Indoor Championships. It is the first time in his career that he has won the award.

Kenawi helped the No. 1-ranked Emory squad to a first-place performance at the Championships, going 3-0 in doubles and 1-1 in singles as the Eagles captured three wins en route to the program's ninth-ever Indoor crown in the 20-year history of the event.

Playing with Andrew Esses at No. 3 doubles, the pair opened with an 8-4 triumph against the Gustavus Adolphus duo of Xavier Sanga and Alex Budde in Emory's 7-2 victory in the quarters. Kenawi accounted for two points in a tight 5-4 verdict vs. Brandeis in the semifinals, teaming with Esses to give Emory a much-needed point in doubles with an 8-7 outcome against Colt Tegtmeier and Rajan Vohra, before earning a 7-5, 6-1 win over Simon Kauppila at six singles that propelled Emory to a 4-2 match lead. In the title match vs. No. 2 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, Kenawi and Esses accounted for the first point of the match with an 8-3 outcome against Daniel Park and Nic Meister.
