Emory Men's Tennis Lands Five On All-UAA Team

Five members of the Emory University men's tennis team were named to the University Athletic Association Team as the league released honorees on Tuesday afternoon. The Eagles went 6-0 during the abbreviated spring season which included a team title at the ITA National Indoor Championships.

Emory saw three players selected in singles - sophomores Antonio Mora and Andrew Esses, and senior Rex Serituk.  In doubles, the Eagles saw two tandems picked for All-UAA acclaim with the No. 1 duo of junior Hayden Cassone and Mora and the No. 3 team of senior Hassan Kenawi and Esses garnering recognition.

Mora landed his all-league honor at No. 2 singles, posting a spring slate of 6-0 while closing out the year with an overall mark of 13-3, with his win total topping the squad.  He helped the Eagles to their first-place finish at the ITA National Indoor Championships after pocketing three singles triumphs including one against Jack Katzman of Clarmemont-Mudd-Scripps, who ended the year as the No. 5-ranked player in Division III, in the finals.  Mora played his way to All-America status during the fall after winning the singles title at the ITA South Region Championships. He closed out the ranked No. 4 nationally in D-III singles and first in the Atlantic South Region.  It is the second time in his career that he has brought home All-UAA singles honors.

At No. 3 singles, Esses earned his first all-league berth, finishing the spring with a 5-1 effort at that post while ranking second on the team in victories with a ledger of 12-4.  Esses recorded successful results in singles in seven of his last eight outings dating from the fall.  He held down the No. 30 position in the national singles rankings and was slotted seventh in the Atlantic South Region.

Serituk was chosen at No. 5 singles, earning his initial All-UAA certificate. He compiled a spring singles showing of 6-0 (5-0 at No. 5) and came through with the clinching points in verdicts over No. 8 Brandeis and No. 2 Claremont-Mudd-Scrips in the semifinals and finals, respectively, at the ITA National Indoor Championships.  Overall, Serituk finished with a 9-2 singles effort.

The No. 1 doubles team of junior Hayden Cassone and Mora captured a conference nod with the duo totaling a spring and overall 4-2 won-lost record. The pair were ranked 15th nationally and No. 4 in the Atlantic South Region. Mora, an All-American in doubles in the fall, notched an overall record of 13-3.

Esses and Kenawi were recognized after teaming for a 6-0 record (5-0 at No. 3), with all of those outcomes taking place in the spring. They came up big at the ITA National Indoor Championships with three victories that helped Emory with the crown.  Esses wound up the season with a 12-1 performance in doubles while Kenawi, who was selected all-league for the first time during his stint at Emory, stood 8-2.
