Three Emory Men's Tennis Players Earn All-America Honors

Three members of the Emory University men's tennis team have been selected as 2020 All-Americans by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic shortening the spring season, the ITA adjusted its selection criteria as it continued the tradition of announcing its All-America teams. To be tabbed as an All-American in 2020 an individual must have met the following guidelines: finish in the Top 20 in the final Oracle/ITA Collegiate Tennis Singles Rankings; finish in the Top 10 in the final Oracle/ITA Collegiate Tennis Doubles Rankings; win a ITA Fall Regional Tournament; or win a first-round match at the ITA National Small College Championships (ITA Cup) in the fall.

Two Eagles brought home All-America acclaim in singles, sophomore Antonio Mora (Miami, FL) and junior Hayden Cassone (S. Salem, NY), while junior Will Wanner  (Lancaster, PA) and Mora garnered honors in doubles.

Mora secured his all-America certificate in singles following a first-place performance at the ITA South Region Championships, where he rattled off six wins en route to the crown, topping teammate Andrew Esses in the finals. He continued his strong play during the spring with a 6-0 ledger in singles at the No. 2 spot. Mora, who compiled an overall singles slate of 13-3 (led team in wins), wound up the season as the No. 4-ranked player in D-III as chosen by the ITA. After two years in the program, he has compiled a glittering record of 33-6.

Cassone landed All-America recognition in singles for the third straight year after finishing in the No. 18 position in the final ITA Singles Rankings.  Cassone, who missed the fall portion of the schedule rehabbing from an injury, returned to the lineup in the spring where he fashioned a 4-2 singles record with all his decisions coming at No. 1. He heads into his senior season with a career won-lost singles ledger of 46-20.

Wanner earned his second All-America award in doubles after he and Mora teamed up in the fall to win the title at the ITA South Region Championships.  The pair notched five wins during their march to the crown, topping the North Carolina Wesleyan tandem of Roberto Puig and Aditya Iyer in the finals. Wanner and Mora also won their opening two matches at the ITA Cup with the pair advancing to the semifinals in that competition. Wanner ended the campaign with a 12-4 record in doubles and claims a career effort of 37-11.

Emory men's tennis won all six of its matches during the spring which included an ITA National Indoor Championship title.
