Cassone Wins Opening Two Singles Matches At NCAA D-III Championships

NCAA D-III Tennis Championships

Fresh off his team's first-place finish at the NCAA D-III Men's Tennis Championships, Emory senior Hayden Cassone got off to a strong start at the singles portion of the competition on Friday.

The No. 7-seeded Cassone picked up two wins, topping Nicholas Aney of Gustavus Adolphus, 4-6, 7-5, 6-1, and Moses Hutchison of Mary Washington in the second round, 6-2, 6-2.  His seeding enabled him to claim All-America acclaim in singles for the fourth straight year.

Cassone now moves into the Round of Eight on Saturday morning where he will battle No. 4-seed Leo Vithootien of Carleton with the victor playing in the semifinals on Saturday afternoon.  The final is slated for a noon start on Sunday (May 30).  This year's performance represents the farthest that Cassone has advanced in the Singles Championships after playing his way to second-round performances in 2018 and 2019.

Cassone will team with Antonio Mora in doubles with the pair squaring off against Cole Schneider and Nyathi Motiojoa of Luther College on Friday evening.
