The Emory University men's tennis team opened up the spring portion of its season Saturday afternoon against NAIA powerhouse Georgia Gwinnett College, in which the Grizzlies defeated the Eagles 7-0 in Lawrenceville.
The match began with a doubles win for GGC on court one as they defeated the tandem of seniors Andrew Esses and Sahil Raina, 6-2. The Grizzlies would go on to win doubles matches on court two over senior Antonio Mora and sophomore Brandon Cohen, 6-3, and on court three over sophomores Sujay Sharma and Nolan Shah, 6-3.
In singles play, GGC was successful in all six matches, emerging victorious in each of them over Emory. At No. 1 Singles, Mora put up a good fight falling to the Grizzlies Alex Gurmendi 3-6, 6-7 (3). Cohen battled hard at No. 5 singles eventually dropping the match 6-7 (7), 0-6.
The Eagles next take the court in a match against Tennessee Wesleyan in their first home match of the season on Friday, February 18th at 2:00 PM.
