Men's Tennis Rallies Once More; Defeats Trinity to Earn Berth to NCAA Quarterfinals

The Emory University men's tennis team pulled off another come-from-behind victory to knock off No. 8 ranked Trinity University in the regional final Sunday afternoon in Fredericksburg, VA. The regional was hosted by the University of Mary Washington.

Emory trailed this one 4-2 to the Tigers before picking up wins on the three remaining courts to survive for the second straight day. The match clinching point came at sixth singles where sophomore Ryan Glanville pulled out the three-set win 4-6, 7-6 (5), 6-2.

The match opened with senior Antonio Mora and sophomore Sujay Sharma collecting the 8-3 victory on court two. However, Trinity would claim the next two matches by 8-3 margins to head into singles play with the 2-1 lead.

Trinity extended its lead to two with a straight set win over Mora on the one-line before senior Andrew Esses pulled the Eagles back within one with his 6-2, 6-1 takedown at the second position. The Tigers would win once more on court four to force Emory into win-all mode.

Graduate student Santiago Suarez was the first of the remaining courts to finish, picking up a straight set win 6-3, 6-4, leaving Glanville and classmate Nolan Shah left to finish.

Shah earned a victory over retirement as he was in the midst of a comeback on three, leading 2-6, 6-2, 4-2 when the match was conceded. Glanville sent Emory onto the next round as rallied to win on six, ending the match with a brilliant ace.

With the win, the Eagles advance to the NCAA Quarterfinals for the 22nd consecutive time and will oppose UAA foe Chicago in the Elite Eight on Monday, May 23rd in Orlando, FL.
