2017-18 Emory Men's Indoor Track & Field Season in Review

2017-18 Emory Men's Indoor Track & Field Season in Review

The Emory University Men's Track and Field team had one All-America performance, placed seven on the USTFCCCA South/Southeast All-Region team and saw another two earn All-University Athletic Association honors during the 2017-18 indoor season.

Senior Max Brown traveled to Birmingham, Alabama as the lone team representative at the 2018 NCAA Division III Indoor Championships. Brown garnered his second career All-America honor in the Mile, placing eighth overall in a time of 4:12.60. With his eighth place finish, he became just the fourth Emory male, joining Troy Thompson, Chris Williams and Chris Nehls, to earn multiple All-America honors in the same event in Emory Men's Indoor Track and Field history.

Brown highlighted Emory's seven student-athletes on the South/Southeast All-Region list, claiming honors in both the Mile and Distance Medley Relay with sophomores Samuel Branson, Alex Rand and senior Robert Wilhelm III. Senior Benjamin Rogin in the 60m Hurdles, freshman Jacob Hedgepeth in the 800m Run, and sophomore Luis Torres in the 5000m Run added All-Region kudos for the Eagles.

At the UAA Championships, hosted by Case Western Reserve in Cleveland, Ohio, Emory posted two all-conference finishes and scored in seven events to place seventh with 29 points. Brown and Rogin captured All-UAA honors with Rogin taking second in the 60m Hurdles and Brown finishing third in the mile.

Torres took fourth in the 5000m Run, Hu was fifth in the Triple Jump and freshman Liam Fost was sixth in the 400m Dash to round out the UAA individual scorers. The Eagles added points in both the 4x400m and Distance Medley Relay as Rogin, Wilhelm, Rand and sophomore Aria Mohseni was fourth in the 4x4 and Branson, Rand, Wilhelm and Brown were fourth in the DMR.

The Eagles saw two school records set during the season as Brown set the Mile mark with a time of 4:11.55 in the prelims of the NCAA Championships and Rogin running an 8.30 in the finals of the 60m Hurdles at the UAA Championships.

At other scored meets during the season, Emory took fifth at its home Invitational at the Crossplex in Birmingham, AL, sixth at both meets hosted by Sewanee and 11th at the BSC Panther Indoor Icebreaker.

Rogin along with Hu garnered Academic honors for the Eagles based on their success athletically and in the classroom to round out the yearly honors, earning berths on the CoSIDA Google Cloud Academic All-District team. It was Rogin's third straight Academic All-District selection while it was Hu's second straight.
