Freshman thrower Wheeler Wilson made his collegiate debut for Emory in the shot put on Friday at the Birmingham-Southern Icebreaker and broke a school record in his first attempt. Wilson produced a toss with a distance of 15.04m to break the previous record of 14.77m, which was established in 2012. The heave left Wilson in fifth-place at the event that did not utilize team scoring and saw a number of DI programs attend. The freshman’s effort stands as the 10th-best throw in DIII this season and gives him the top spot out of UAA competitors.
