Senior Spotlight: Liam Fost

Senior Spotlight: Liam Fost

The Emory Senior Spotlight Series continues with a look at current track & field student-athlete Liam Fost.

Name: Liam Fost

Hometown (HS): North Caldwell, NJ (West Essex Regional)

Sport: Men's Track & Field

Major: Biology with a Philosophy minor

** How did you start getting involved with track? How old were you when you started competing?

My middle school soccer coach was also the track coach and he told me "you're fast, you should do track." I've been running track ever since then.

** Do you have any current plans for after graduation?

I am currently looking at various programs, and I am on the pre-med track, so medical school is somewhere on the horizon for me.

** What is one piece of advice you would give to your freshman self?

If you are only doing what is asked of you, you are not doing enough; stretch before bed, eat healthy, get adequate sleep, don't procrastinate on school work. Setting those habits earlier on would have benefitted me more.

** Which Emory faculty or staff member has made the greatest impact on you and why?

Dr. Huseyinzadegan - I decided I wanted to minor in philosophy after taking two of her philosophy classes, and now I am interested in studying bioethics in graduate school.

** What is one class would you retake just for fun and why?

Definitely Herpetology (the study of reptiles/amphibians), I enjoyed working with live animals almost every class. Also, the field trips to parks around Atlanta were a great way to integrate my education with exploring the city.

** What is the most unique thing about your hometown?

The Soprano's house is in my hometown.

** What is something that people may not know about you but should?

I like to sing showtunes, so bring earplugs if you're road-tripping with me.

** Other than track & field, what is another sport you think you could play at a high level?

Pond Hockey

** What is one professional athlete (past or present) would you like to have a conversation with and why?

Ryan Lindgren (on the NY Rangers), I want to hear about what it is like to be a professional athlete at such a young age.

** How have you been trying to occupy your time with given the current COVID environment?

I spend time with my housemates and try to make memories with them during my last year of college.

** Food you hate that everybody else seems to enjoy?

Sushi

** What would you say are your top three movies or television shows of all time?

Step Brothers, Pirates of the Caribbean (specifically the first and second one), and Edward Scissorhands.

** What is your favorite thing to do around Atlanta?

I love checking out some of the touristy things Atlanta has to offer - such as the Aquarium or the Botanical Gardens.

** What is your favorite Atlanta restaurant?

STK Steakhouse - any time I have something to celebrate, I go there.

** What has been your most memorable moment during competition during your Eagles career?

Breaking the UAA conference record in the 400m dash when Emory was hosting UAA's.

** Favorite non-athletic moment from your past few years at Emory?

Performing in a stand up comedy night and having my friends and peers come out to support me.

** Favorite team tradition/activity?

Halloween 4x4 (racing in group costumes)

** What would be one thing you'd like to impart to the underclassmen before finishing your career?

The most impressive person on the track isn't the person who is the best, it is the person who has come the farthest. That mentality has always kept me motivated over the years.
