Emory Track & Field Sweeps UAA Athlete of the Week Awards

Emory University track & field members Laura Sheckter, Claire Evans, Brett Henshey and Spencer Watry swept the University Athletic Association Athlete of the Week awards as announced by the league office late Monday afternoon.

Sheckter shined in the shot put event Sunday afternoon at the Panther Invitational, winning the event with a mark of 12.84m. Her mark broke a 37-year-old school record and currently ranks as the best mark among all Division III national qualifiers so far this season.

Evans won both Hurdles events for the Eagles and was part of second place relay squad for Emory on Sunday. Evans currently ranks inside the top-20 nationally in both the 400m Hurdles (11th, 1:09.50) and 100m Hurdles (20th, 16.25). For the 4x400m relay, Evans ran the anchor leg to help the Eagles clock a time of 4:10.87 which ranks 6th among DIII qualifiers after the weekend.

Henshey recorded a mark of 1.95m to win the high jump event at the meet and currently places second among Division III national qualifiers after the weekend.

Watry clocked in with a time of 1:56.39 to win the 800m Run at the Invitational over the weekend. His time now places him sixth in the event among Division III national qualifiers. Watry also was part of Emory's 4x400m relay team that placed second at the meet and ranks 7th in Division III with a time of 3:25.11.

The track & field teams will return to action this Friday, March 26th with the Hilltop Classic, hosted by Birmingham-Southern College.
