Men's Track & Field Finish Third at UAA Championships

The Emory University men's track & field team closed out the final day of competition at the UAA Outdoor Championships in St. Louis, MO with a third place finish and eight additional All-UAA Performances.

The Eagles finished in third place having registered 142.5 points over the two-day meet. This is Emory's best finish since the team won the competition back in 2015. No. 14 WashU sat atop the podium at meets end having accumulated 207 points while No. 3 ranked Carnegie Mellon trailed just behind with 202 points.

Freshman Jackson Price and senior Thomas Davis stole the show for the Eagles as each finished with four All-UAA performances. Davis beat out Jackson by .01 seconds in the 100m dash as they finished in first and second place, respectively with times of 10.92 and 10.93 seconds. In the 200m dash, it was Price who narrowly edged out Davis as they finished first and second place again with times of 21.59 and 21.91 seconds, respectively. The two of them were a part of the 4x400 relay team along with graduate student Liam Fost and sophomore Dawit Dean who turned in an outstanding first place performance crossing the finish line in 3:15.81. Finally, Davis and Price were on the record-setting 4x100 relay team along with Fost and freshman Sam Ryba who registered a time of 41.27 seconds to win the event and set a new program record.

The other two All-UAA honors were awarded to Fost and Dean for their back-to-back finishes in the 400m dash. Fost won the event for a second time with a mark of 48.31 seconds which sits at 13th in the nation while Dean finished just behind with a time of 48.90 to finish second.

Elsewhere on the track, junior Justin Pecore finished with a time of 3:35.99 in the 1,500m run to score an additional point for the Eagles and set the tenth best time in program history. Freshman Marcus Cheema posted a time of 1:53.38 to finish in sixth in the 800m run. Ryba (22.46), competing in the 200m dash, registered a sixth place finish while freshman Chris Belz (51.03) completed the 400m dash in eighth place. In the hurdle events, senior Lucas Werner (15.80) placed eighth in the 110m hurdles while senior Graham Scott (57.82) registered a seventh place finish in the 400m hurdles.

On the field for the Eagles, freshman Geoff Point-du-Jour posted a height of 1.80m in the high jump event to finish just out of All-UAA position in fourth place. Freshman John Zhai had a solid day as he recorded a distance of 13.27m in the triple jump to finish fifth and match his personal best. Sophomore Kenya Sei rounded out scoring for the Eagles coming in eighth place in the discus throw after hitting a distance of 38.57m.

The Eagles will be back in action next weekend when they travel to Athens, GA for the Torrin Lawrence Memorial as they continue to prepare and attempt to qualify for the NCAA DIII Outdoor Championships at the end of May.
