Spencer Moore Named to CoSIDA Academic All-America Third Team

Emory University senior Spencer Moore was named to the Cross Country/Track & Field Academic All-America Third Team as presented by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Wednesday afternoon.

Moore becomes the sixth student-athlete to earn Academic All-America acclaim during the 2021-22 academic year, joining Clio Hancock and Jason Hamilton of swimming & diving, volleyball's Tara Martin, men's basketball's Matthew Schner and women's basketball's Claire Brock. With the latest honor, the Emory Athletics department has now seen 198 Academic All-America honors bestowed upon its student-athletes in its history.

On the heels of reaching the finals of the 3000m Steeplechase at the NCAA Outdoor Championships last month, Moore garners the 18th Academic All-America honor for men's cross country/track & field and the first since Daniel Pietsch in 2016. Moore finished 11th in the steeplechase at nationals, capping off an impressive outdoor season where he posted the second-fastest time in program history and was crowned the UAA champion in the event. Earlier in the year, Moore collected his second career All-Region honor as he helped the Emory cross country team to the regional crown and was ninth at the UAA Championships to earn All-UAA Second Team honors for the first time. In addition, he made his first appearance at the NCAA Championships, placing 154th out of 289 runners. He concludes his Eagles career as a six-time USTFCCCA All-Region selection in track and has made three UAA All-Academic teams.

The CoSIDA Academic All-America team recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. To be nominated, student-athletes must be a key starter or reserve, maintain a 3.30 grade point average, be of sophomore standing or higher, and have attended their current institutions for at least one year.
