RESULTS

The Emory University men’s and  women’s cross country teams both came through with solid performances on Saturday at the JSU Foothills Invitational.  The event was held at the Choccolocco Sports Complex in Oxford, Alabama.

The Emory men’s side registered a second-place finish out of 20 teams with 55 points, trailing only Samford’s effort of 24 points. Lipscomb closed out the race in the No. 3 spot with 95 points while North Alabama (108 pts.) and West Alabama (142 pts.) rounded out the top five. Running in a unusual 7K competition, junior Luis Torres led the Emory pack and placed sixth out of 176 entries with a time of 22:49.  Sophomore Sam Branson was the second Eagle to cross the finish line, clocking a 22:51 that put him one spot behind Torres.  Senior Bennett Shaw ranked 13^th on the leader board at 22:59 while sophomore Matt Dillon (15^th, place 23:02) and freshman Brett Lucas (16^th place, 23:04) accounted the rest of the Emory scoring.

The Emory women also brought home a runner-up finish out of 19 teams, with the team’s 56 points second to Samford’s 22 points. Lipscomb was third at 116 points while North Alabama (143 pts.) and host Jacksonville State University (184 pts.) finished off the top five. Senior Kaylee Slade spearheaded the Eagles’ contingent and finished fourth out of 163 runners with a personal-best 5K time of 18:41.  Sophomore Carrie McIntyre placed second in the pack and ninth with an effort of 19:15. Senior Kayla O’Shea was 10^th overall at 19:20 while sophomores Susie Martin (17^th place, 19:29) and Abby Durfee (24^th, 19:41) closed out the Emory scoring.

Both the men (ranked 21^st in D-III) and the women (ranked 28^th nationally) return to action on October 13 when they compete at the NCAA D-III Pre-Nationals in Winneconne, Wisconsin.
