Emory Cross Country Competes at UTC Twilight Meet

The Emory men's and women's cross country teams continued their 2019 seasons Friday evening in Chattanooga, Tennessee at Camp Jordan, where they participated in the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga Twilight Cross Country Meet.

The men's side finished sixth out of ten teams in the 7K race with 89 points, but placed third out of seven Non-DI teams. Host UTC took the top spot with 15 points, while DII Lee University placed first of the seven Non-DI schools with 19 points.

Freshman Joe Chamoun was the first Eagle to cross the line, claiming 15th out of 96 runners with a 22:21.35 and was closely followed by fellow freshmen Neil Mosca (22:25, 16th place) and Andrew Pahnke (22:26, 17th place). The rest of the scoring was settled by sophomore Liam McGuire (22:46, 28th place), junior Jacob Hedgepeth (22:59, 32nd), freshman Sebastian Roa (23:15, 39th place), and freshman J.T. Ryan (24:02, 49th place). The remaining six Eagle participants all recorded times under 25:05.

The women's team posted a ninth place finish out of the 12 teams in attendance, but it ended up fifth out of the seven non-D1 schools. Lee won the overall 4K women's competition with 16 points, beating UTC's 29 points.

Senior Heather Beavers was the top performer for the Eagles behind her 15:51, giving her 31st out of 88 participants. Junior Christina Dwierturned in a 16:10 effort and that placed her 37th. A pair of juniors finished 57th and 58th as Olivia Hoekendijk crossed in 17:02 and Michelle Ly followed with a 17:18. The scoring concluded when Virginia Brown (17:29, 61st place) and Lauren Musachia (15:53, 67th place), both freshmen, strode across the finish line.

Both squads now turn their attention to tackling the Rhodes College Invitational on Sept. 21, when they will run at Shelby Farms Park in Memphis, TN.
