Freshman first baseman Ashley Powers helped the No. 16-ranked
Emory softball team to a 4-0 record at the 3n2 Elite Event.
Powers hit .385 after going 5-for-13 at the plate with all her hits
being the extra-base variety -- three doubles and two round
trippers. In addition, she topped the team with eight runs batted
in and scored four runs.
Her first collegiate hit was a three-run homer that highlighted a
seven-run uprising in the second inning in an eventual
five-inning, 10-0 victory over Rhodes College. On the
final day of action, she stroked a two-run homer in the bottom of
the sixth that closed out the team's scoring in a 5-2 verdict over
Rhodes. She followed that performance by tying a school
record with three doubles (3-for-4 at the plate), scoring twice,
and driving in three runs in a 5-4 come-from behind outcome vs.
Lynchburg. Her final two ribbies came in the bottom of the
seventh inning and scored the tying and winning runs.
